Congressman Green's Statement on President Trump's Proposed Budget Blueprint

Statement

Congressman Gene Green released the following statement on President Trump's 2018 budget request:

"The budget blueprint that President Trump revealed today will negatively impact the lives of many hard-working families in Houston and Harris County and across the country," said Green.

"I find it hard to believe that his "America First' budget puts Americans first when medical researchers will lack funds essential to discovering lifesaving cures, first-generation and low-income college students will struggle paying for college, and nutrition and housing assistance will be cut."

"One of my biggest concerns is the $6 billion cut to the National Institutes of Health. President Trump pledged to cure diseases when he was on the campaign trail, but his actions today prove otherwise."

"Patients in Houston and throughout the country will be the ultimate losers by the proposed cuts to HHS and NIH, including completely defunding programs to train nurses and skilled health professionals. These cuts will further undermine the great progress made under the bipartisan 21st Century Cures Act that Congress passed last year.

"By gutting services that have improved the lives of hard-working families, President Trump will endanger the healthcare and well-being for millions of Americans,"
